Basketball Recap: Stanton Blue Devils vs. Sandalwood Saints
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Nease, the Stanton Blue Devils were happy to have found some success on Tuesday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 42-41 win over Sandalwood. This was payback for Stanton, who suffered a 55-42 defeat the last time these two teams met.
It was another big night for Gabrielle Fajardo, who scored 19 points. Katharine Banerjea was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Despite the defeat, Sandalwood had strong showings from Eva George, who scored five points along with five rebounds, and Cameron Craw, who scored four points along with five rebounds.
Stanton's victory bumped their record up to 8-10. As for Sandalwood, they are on a 14-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-20.
Stanton won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on January 31st. West Nassau is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Sandalwood, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Andrew Jackson and the Saints are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads.
