Softball Recap: Valmeyer Pirates vs. Dupo Tigers

Valmeyer had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-11 to make it five. They lost 18-1 to the Dupo Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on Friday.

As for Dupo, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-9. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by seven runs or more this season.

For Dupo's part, Kylie Kloess made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Kloess has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Keara Prater was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kaylyn Woods was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

After both having extra time off, Valmeyer and Sparta will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Dupo, they will challenge East Alton-Wood River at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
