Football Preview: Coffee Trojans vs. Sequoyah Chiefs

After each having a week off, the Coffee Trojans and the Sequoyah Chiefs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Coffee is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Thomas County Central last Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Trojans came up short against the Yellow Jackets, falling 41-17. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked fifth).

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Bobby Reynolds, who rushed for 170 yards. Coffee is 2-1 when Reynolds posts 80 or more rushing yards, but 2-5 otherwise.

Coffee better keep an eye on Will Rajecki. He was instrumental in Sequoyah's win, rushing for 211 yards and four touchdowns. Rajecki's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 101 rushing yards.

Sequoyah's defense didn't let Alex Penrod, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for five sacks. Noah Normile was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. Another thorn in Creekview's side was Fountain, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles.

Coffee has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Sequoyah, their record is now 9-1.

Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Coffee has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 200.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sequoyah struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 212.8 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
