Softball Recap: Seton Catholic Has No Trouble Against Florence

Seton Catholic barely beat Florence the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Seton Catholic Sentinels put the hurt on the Florence Gophers with a sharp 9-1 win on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won five contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Brooke Zuluaga was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Natalia Casillas, who scored three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Breen, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Seton Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-1-2 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10 runs. This is the second loss in a row for Florence and nudges their season record down to 1-3.

Coincidentally, Seton Catholic and Florence will both be playing Apache Junction the next time they take the field. Florence will host Apache Junction at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while Seton Catholic will head out to face them at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
