Football Game Preview: Rockdale Tigers vs. Groesbeck Goats

The Rockdale Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Groesbeck Goats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Rockdale has given up an average of 31.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Last Friday, Rockdale came up short against Giddings and fell 44-36. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Rockdale's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Deandre Stephens, who gained 124 total yards and two touchdowns, and Greyson Williams, who threw for 292 yards and three touchdowns. Stephens showed off some serious burst, cutting upfield on a catch for 52 yards.

Meanwhile, Groesbeck played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 56-21 loss at the hands of Lexington. While losing is never fun, the Goats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 565th, while the Eagles are ranked 227th).

Rockdale will have to contain Paul Samford as he made an impact in Groesbeck's last game. He rushed for 121 yards and a pair of scores on only eight carries.

Groesbeck's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Rockdale, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 2-2.

Rockdale couldn't quite get it done against Groesbeck in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 as they fell 32-21. Thankfully for the Tigers, Trent Platt (who rushed for 124 yards and three TDs, and also threw for 179 yards on only 16 passes) won't be suiting up this time.
