Baseball Recap: Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Nansemond-Suffolk Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Granby Comets by a score of 11-10. The Saints were not able to make up for their loss to the Comets from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Parker Duke and Gavin Angelillo stepped up to the plate in a big way. Duke went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run, while Angelillo went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy is 5-1 when Angelillo posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cam Bergen, who went 3-for-5 with two runs.

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Granby, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy will challenge Virginia Episcopal School at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bishops have averaged an impressive 9.6 runs per game this season. As for Granby, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Manor at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.46 runs per game on average), something the Comets will no doubt try to take advantage of.
