Baseball Game Preview: Riviera Prep Bulldogs vs. Marathon Dolphins

The Riviera Prep Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Marathon Dolphins at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Riviera Prep will be strutting in after a victory while Marathon will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, Riviera Prep got the win against Somerset Academy South Homestead by a conclusive 18-2. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Hurricanes: they've now won nine in a row.

Tanner Wasserman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Riviera Prep got a massive performance out of Jake Wohl, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Antonio Garcia was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Marathon fell victim to Coral Shores and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They fell just short of the Hurricanes by a score of 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dolphins have suffered against the Hurricanes since April 2, 2021.

This is the second loss in a row for Marathon and nudges their season record down to 3-3. As for Riviera Prep, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Riviera Prep might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from Marathon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Riviera Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
