Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Clifton Central

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Clifton Central nor Momence made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Comets came out on top against the Momence Athletics by a score of 8-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-3 on Tuesday.

Mallory Stewart spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits.

At the plate, Chloe Cotter and Rayven Perkins did most of the damage at the plate: Cotter got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI, while Perkins got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Bella Kempen, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The victory (which was Clifton Central's third in a row) raised their record to 7-15. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Momence, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

Looking ahead, Clifton Central will square off against St. Anne at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Momence, they will venture away from home to challenge Kankakee at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
