Soccer Recap: Five Straight Home Victories for Purnell Swett

While Purnell Swett's win against Lumberton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Pirates on Friday. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Purnell Swett's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 183rd, while Lumberton are ranked 385th).

Josie McLean was the driving force of Purnell Swett's attack as she scored both of Purnell Swett's goals, bringing her season total up to 33 goals.

Purnell Swett pushed their record up to 14-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those five contests. As for Lumberton, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 8-13-1 record.

Purnell Swett will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Pirates: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
