Baseball Game Preview: Broadalbin-Perth Patriots vs. Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks

The Broadalbin-Perth Patriots will challenge the Coxsackie-Athens Riverhawks at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with four losses in a row, Broadalbin-Perth turned things around against South Glens Falls on Friday. They skirted past the Bulldogs 5-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Patriots' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Broadalbin-Perth saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Shields, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Coxsackie-Athens had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 8-3.

Coxsackie-Athens also got a great performance from CJ VanAlphen as he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). VanAlphen has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Sager, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Neil Murphy, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Coxsackie-Athens' victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Broadalbin-Perth, the win got them back to even at 5-5.
