Basketball Game Preview: North Charleston Cougars vs. Hanahan Hawks

North Charleston is 1-6 against Hanahan since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The North Charleston Cougars will square off against the Hanahan Hawks at 7:00 p.m.

North Charleston is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 21st straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They took a blow against Military Magnet Academy, falling 102-9. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 49-6.

Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Hanahan's strategy against Georgetown on Tuesday. Hanahan strolled past Georgetown with points to spare, taking the game 42-27. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 94th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 229th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North Charleston better focus on containing Camdyn Lawson and Bri Johnsen as the pair were huge in Hanahan's win. Lawson posted ten points and five steals, while Johnsen had nine points and seven steals. Johnsen has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 29 times she's played. Kaleigh Taylor was another key player, putting up five points.

Hanahan pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.3 points per game. As for North Charleston, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.

North Charleston took a serious blow against Hanahan in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 61-26. Can North Charleston avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
