Basketball Recap: Mclean Continues Road Dominance on Friday

McLean won the last time they faced Motley County and things went their way on Friday too. The McLean Tigers secured a 50-46 W over the Motley County Matadors. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 404th, while the Matadors are ranked 1145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

McLean's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kasidy Russell led the charge by putting up 24 points. Russell's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hailo Moon, who posted 16 points.

Elizabeth Morales and Jada Richards certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Morales had 18 points, while Richards earned 15 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. That was a full 39.1% of Motley County's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Bailea Lawrence was another key player, scoring seven points.

McLean's win was their 13th straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points over those games. As for Motley County, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 13-19 record this season.

McLean wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 51-28 victory against Kelton on the 10th. As for Motley County, they will face off against Petersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
