Basketball Recap: Fowler Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Fowler won the last time they faced Swallows Charter Academy, and Andrea Maestas did her part to make sure it happened again. The Fowler Grizzlies took down the Swallows Charter Academy Spartans 49-31 on Tuesday with plenty of help from Maestas, who on her way to 23 points and eight steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Fowler's points.

Jordan Bates was another key player, putting up three points and three steals. What's more, she posted two assists, the most she's had since back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Swallows Charter Academy still got an impressive performance from Jade Anaya, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 12 blocks. That was a full 61.3% of Swallows Charter Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row Anaya has put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Erica Ponce, who had nine points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Fowler has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-12 record this season. Swallows Charter Academy's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-12.

Fowler has already played their next contest, a 45-8 defeat against Peyton on the 21st. Swallows Charter Academy will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Rocky Ford at 6:30 p.m. on February 28th. Swallows Charter Academy is facing Rocky Ford at the right time seeing as Rocky Ford is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
