Basketball Recap: Odyssey Institute Comes Up Short

Odyssey Institute played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 52-17 loss at the hands of the Yuma Catholic Shamrocks. While losing is never fun, the Minotaur can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 248th, while the Shamrocks are ranked 75th).

Rakiah Mitchell was Odyssey Institute's leading scorer, having posted nine points. Shelby Hunt held things down on the boards with nine rebounds. Adamaris Aguilar took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with two assists.

Amanda Wiley continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Yuma Catholic, going 8 for 18 on her way to 23 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Wiley's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Sadie Estes, who posted 11 points and five steals.

Odyssey Institute's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Yuma Catholic, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-6.

Odyssey Institute has already played their next contest, a 50-23 loss against Parker on the 17th. As for Yuma Catholic, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, an 80-5 win against Tonopah Valley on the 17th.
