Soccer Game Preview: Sonora vs. Villa Park

The Sonora Raiders will face off against the Villa Park Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sonora has three straight victories, Villa Park has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Sonora proved they can win big on Friday (they won by five) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Esperanza 3-2. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Sonora's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 229th, while Esperanza are ranked 620th).

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Villa Park's offense. They fell 2-0 to Foothill on Wednesday. That's two games in a row now that Villa Park have lost by exactly two goals.

Villa Park's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Sonora, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
