Recap: Skyline Thunderbirds vs. Trego Golden Eagles
After flying high against the Macksville Mustangs last Friday, The Skyline Thunderbirds came back down to earth. Skyline fell to Trego 30-24. Skyline lost against Trego in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 52-6 score last time.
Despite the loss, Skyline still got an impressive performance from Justus Novotny, who rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown, and also picked up 63 receiving yards.
Trego found their leader in underclassman Ashton Wynn, who rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns.
Skyline's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 4-4. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Trego, LaCrosse, and Argonia/Attica. As for Trego, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Skyline will head out on the road to face off against Meade at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meade has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 401 points over their last seven contests. As for Trego, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Spearville at 6:00 p.m.
