Basketball Recap: Bel Air Takes a Loss

If Bel Air was feeling good fresh off their 71-41 takedown of Horizon last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bel Air Highlanders took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Parkland Matadors. The Highlanders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Matadors apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Bel Air lost on Friday, don't look at Matt Hernandez. Despite the final result, he posted 20 points along with six boards and five steals. That's the most steals Hernandez has posted since back in November of 2024. Marcos Garcia was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

Parkland had a senior duo take command as Diego Castillo dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds and Tyresse Wallace put up 12 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Mcmorris, who had six points.

Bel Air's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Parkland, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-18.

Bel Air will take on Hanks at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bel Air is facing Hanks at the right time seeing as Hanks is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Parkland, they will square off against Horizon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parkland will also cruise into their next match with the timing on their side: Horizon will have lost four straight heading into Tuesday's contest.
