Basketball Game Preview: San Juan Spartans vs. Mesa Verde Mavericks

The San Juan Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Mesa Verde Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. San Juan has now lost eight straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since December 20.

San Juan lost 51-30 to Highlands on Friday.

Meanwhile, Mesa Verde suffered their biggest defeat since December 26, 2024 on Friday. They were outmatched by Woodland Christian and fell 71-25. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1313th, while the Cardinals are ranked 473rd).

San Juan's loss dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Mesa Verde, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

San Juan came up short against Mesa Verde in their previous meeting on January 3rd, falling 40-36. Can San Juan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
