Basketball Recap: Sayre Comes Up Short

Sayre was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 71-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Shattuck Indians. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Sayre saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tate Bawden dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. The match was Bawden's sixth in a row with at least ten points. JJ Bearid was another key player, putting up 13 points and five rebounds.

Sayre's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Shattuck, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.

Sayre wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 47-44 win against Okeene on the 25th. Shattuck has also already played their next contest, a 58-45 victory against Boise City on the 25th.
