Volleyball Recap: Kirkwood Comes Up Short in High-Profile Matchup with North Point

Kirkwood faced North Point in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Pioneers took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Grizzlies. If the Pioneers were looking for revenge after losing 2-1 to the Grizzlies when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Luke Martinez paced Kirkwood's offense, picking up eight kills. Martinez got some help from Alec Gates and his 17 assists. Martinez was also solid from the service line: he led the team with two aces.

This is the second loss in a row for Kirkwood and nudges their season record down to 11-6. As for North Point, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-5.

Looking ahead, Kirkwood will face off against Parkway North at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Point, they have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 loss against O'Fallon on the 3rd.
