Baseball Recap: Independence/Gilmanton Takes a Loss

Independence/Gilmanton dropped their record down to 3-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs, falling 10-0. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Indees, who until this game were averaging 3.67 runs allowed.

As for Melrose-Mindoro, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Melrose-Mindoro's part, the result came thanks to Colton Koss's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up nine Ks. Koss has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Melrose-Mindoro let Brady Blaken and Brett Peterson run wild. Blaken went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and three runs, while Peterson got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that Peterson has hit this season.

While Independence/Gilmanton had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
