Basketball Game Preview: Iola Bulldogs vs. Mumford Mustangs

The Iola Bulldogs are taking a road trip to challenge the Mumford Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Iola has struggled recently with 19 defeats in a row, while Mumford will arrive with three straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Iola was beaten by Bremond 59-15. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1455th, while the Tigers are ranked 419th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mumford). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat Hearne 80-24. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 contests by 20 points or more this season.

Mumford pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.3 points per game. As for Iola, their loss dropped their record down to 0-12.

Iola was dealt a bruising 66-14 defeat at the hands of Mumford in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Iola avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
