Softball Game Preview: Camden County Bruins vs. Hertford County Bears

Camden County is a perfect 6-0 against Hertford County since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bruins will be playing at home against the Bears at 5:00 p.m. Camden County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

Camden County took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They never let Northeastern get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The high-scoring effort was just what the Bruins needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Ava Frisbie was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-1. That hit was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ellie Barker, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Kaitlynn Barnes, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Camden County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Hertford County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against North East Carolina Prep, falling 15-0.

Camden County's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Hertford County, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.

Camden County took their win against Hertford County when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 7-0 score. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Bears have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
