Basketball Recap: Amphitheater Takes a Loss

Amphitheater was the 67-34 winner over Sahuarita when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Amphitheater Panthers took a 77-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sahuarita Mustangs on Wednesday. The Panthers' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it five in a row.

Daniel Durazo was a one-man wrecking crew for Sahuarita as he went 12 for 19 en route to 33 points and six assists. Those 33 points gave Durazo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Thomas Naylor, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards.

Amphitheater's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Sahuarita, their win bumped their record up to 8-10.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Amphitheater will face off against Rio Rico at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Amphitheater is facing Rio Rico at the right time seeing as Rio Rico is stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Sahuarita, they will take on Douglas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Douglas' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
