Softball Game Preview: Annawan-Wethersfield Titans vs. Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes

The Annawan-Wethersfield Titans will take on the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Annawan-Wethersfield took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on ROWVA/Williamsfield with a sharp 15-1 win.

Meanwhile, Abingdon/Avon won against Galva on Friday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again. The Tornadoes skirted past Annawan-Wethersfield 13-12. The victory was nothing new for the Tornadoes as they're now sitting on three straight.

Addy Onion spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and nine unearned) runs on 11 hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Taylor Ford, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Stegall, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Abingdon/Avon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Annawan-Wethersfield's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-12. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Abingdon/Avon, their win bumped their record up to 8-9.
