Softball Recap: Mingus Takes a Loss

Mingus extended their losing streak to 13 on Friday, dropping them down to 3-18. They came up short against the Mohave Accelerated Patriots, falling 8-0. The Marauders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2020.

As for Mohave Accelerated, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.

For Mohave Accelerated's part, Kennedy Lamb made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. Lamb has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tanner Banks, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted over her last 11 games. Savannah Medrano also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Mingus has already played their next matchup, a 12-0 defeat against Prescott on the 20th. As for Mohave Accelerated, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 5-1 win against Santa Cruz Valley on the 17th.
