Basketball Recap: Greenwich Gets Big Victory over Higher-Ranked Staples

Greenwich hadn't done well against Staples recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Greenwich Cardinals managed a 57-52 victory over the Staples Wreckers. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cardinals' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Wreckers are ranked 13th).

Staples lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Mason Tobias, who went 6 of 8 on his way to 13 points and seven boards. Dhilan Lowman was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Greenwich's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-7. As for Staples, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Greenwich will venture away from home to square off against Trumbull at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Staples, they will head out to take on Wilton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Sam Clachko and Ryan Luchetta.
