The Northern Cambria Colts will challenge the Central Dragons at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Central will be up against a hot Northern Cambria squad: the team just extended their winning streak to nine. The Colts were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Bishop Guilfoyle on Friday.
Levi Czar looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zach Lockard and Ty Dumm did most of the damage at the plate: Lockard went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, while Dumm scored two runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most RBI Lockard has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Fry, who scored a run and stole a base.
Northern Cambria kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Central entered their tilt with Central Cambria on Friday with five consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with six. They put the hurt on the Red Devils with a sharp 13-3 victory.
Mason Byler was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Byler was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Troy McNichol was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Jay Hoenstine, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Northern Cambria's record is now 9-0. As for Central, their record now sits at 6-1.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Northern Cambria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .373. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Northern Cambria might still be hurting after the 13-1 defeat they got from Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
