Basketball Recap: Phoenix Academy Takes a Loss

Phoenix Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 60-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clover Garden School Grizzlies.

When it comes to explaining why Phoenix Academy lost, don't look at Ervin Montgomery. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals. Those seven steals gave Montgomery a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chayse Gallo, who scored 16 points.

Even though they lost, Phoenix Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in five consecutive contests.

Brayden DeAlto was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten boards for Clover Garden School. DeAlto has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Joshua Akers was another key player, putting up six points along with 17 boards and four blocks.

Phoenix Academy's loss dropped their record down to 6-18. As for Clover Garden School, their record now sits at 8-11.

Looking ahead, Phoenix Academy will be playing at home against Community Baptist at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Phoenix Academy is facing Community Baptist at the right time seeing as Community Baptist is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Clover Garden School, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-58 defeat against Triangle Math & Science on the 10th.
