Baseball Game Preview: Rancho Cotate Cougars vs. Ukiah Wildcats

Rancho Cotate is 2-8 against Ukiah since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Rancho Cotate Cougars duke it out with Ukiah Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Ukiah took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Rancho Cotate, who comes in off a win.

Rancho Cotate is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Maria Carrillo on Wednesday as Rancho Cotate made off with a 12-6 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Cougars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Camden Henington and Stephen Scott did most of the damage at the plate: Henington scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4, while Scott scored three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those three hits gave Henington a new career-high. Jett Derammelaere was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.

Meanwhile, Ukiah fell victim to Windsor and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. That makes it the first time this season the Wildcats have let down their home crowd.

Ukiah saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Takoda Newman, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base.

Rancho Cotate has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.8 runs over those games. Ukiah's defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
