Basketball Recap: Deshawn Yates' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Neumann-Goretti over Roman Catholic

Neumann-Goretti lost against Roman Catholic back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Neumann-Goretti Saints took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Roman Catholic Cahillite. While losing is never fun, the Saints can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Cahillite are ranked first).

Several Saints players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was DeShawn Yates, who posted 17 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Yates has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Stephon Ashley, who went 6 of 14 en route to 18 points and five assists.

Neumann-Goretti now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Roman Catholic, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Neumann-Goretti wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 67-65 victory against Cardinal O'Hara on the 20th. Roman Catholic has also already played their next game, a 65-50 win against Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic on the 19th.
