Payton Matthews Game Report: @ Shelby

Payton Matthews turned in yet another pitching appearance with fewer than two walks surrendered on Tuesday. He produced his best game of the campaign: he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because East Gaston is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 4-5 otherwise.

Matthews' strong effort led East Gaston over Shelby and he'll get a chance to do so again: the teams have a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. East Gaston is 8-2 against Shelby going back to April of 2021, a lead they'll look to extend.
