Basketball Recap: Pueblo West Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Pueblo West can now relate to. They received a blow on Friday as they fell 75-57 to the Chaparral Wolverines. While losing is never fun, the Cyclones can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while the Wolverines are ranked third).

Leading Chaparral to victory were Luke Howery and Christian Williams. Howery almost dropped a double-double with 27 points and nine rebounds, while Williams shot 56% from the field to rack up 23 points along with five assists and five boards. Howery is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 53% in the last three games he's played. Luke Williams was another key player, putting up eight points and nine boards.

Pueblo West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 14-11 record this season. Chaparral is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

Pueblo West does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Chaparral, they will take on Rock Canyon on Tuesday. Chaparral has given up an average of 57.8 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week.
