Basketball Game Preview: Highland Springs Springers vs. Hopewell Blue Devils

After both having extra time off, the Highland Springs Springers and the Hopewell Blue Devils will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Highland Springs' favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches.

Highland Springs is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They breezed by Stafford to the tune of 93-66 last Saturday. Given the Springers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Indians are ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Hopewell waltzed into their contest last Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They wrapped up 2024 with a 50-34 win over the Lancers. The 50-point effort marked the Blue Devils' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Hopewell's win came from a few key players Highland Springs will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Nick Byrd, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Deshawn Spellman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Hopewell pushed their record up to 9-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. As for Highland Springs, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Highland Springs and Hopewell were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, but Highland Springs came up empty-handed after a 56-55 loss.
