Baseball Recap: Lincoln-Way West Find Success

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Lincoln-Way West ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Plainfield North Tigers 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Adam Gerl looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Mansker, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Conor Essenburg was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs and one double.

Lincoln-Way West pushed their record up to 27-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Plainfield North, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 22-12.

As of now, neither Lincoln-Way West nor the Tigers have any future games scheduled.
