Football Game Preview: Academy of Richmond County Musketeers vs. Stephenson Jaguars + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Mykheal Smith and Jayden Johnson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After each having a week off, the Academy of Richmond County Musketeers and the Stephenson Jaguars will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Friday, Academy of Richmond County didn't have too much trouble with Aquinas as they won 28-14. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Musketeers.

Among those leading the charge was Carson Hand, who threw for 157 yards and one touchdown.

Academy of Richmond County didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Aquinas to a completion percentage of just 40%. That defensive display was nothing new: the Musketeers have limited their opponent to a lower and lower completion percentage in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Stephenson was able to grind out a solid victory over Douglass last Friday, taking the game 21-10. The 21-point effort marked the Jaguars' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

The critical scores for Stephenson came from Noah Mahoney, Aaryn Chastine, and Anthony Booker.

One reason for the win was Stephenson's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kwame Green Jr., Troy Stiggers, and Tyrell Eldridge, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chastine got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win got Academy of Richmond County back to even at 5-5. As for Stephenson, their record is now 9-1.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Academy of Richmond County has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Stephenson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 308.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
