Softball Game Preview: Westview Chargers vs. Milan Bulldogs

The Westview Chargers will square off against the Milan Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westview is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Milan will be up against a hot Westview squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Chargers never let Peabody get on the board and left with a 5-0 win on Tuesday.

McCall Sims made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Sims wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mary (Maddie) Gray, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Milan ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Ripley 3-2.

Camryn Green spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 15 Ks.

Milan is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Westview, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Westview has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Milan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went Westview's way against Milan when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Westview made off with a 12-2 victory. Do the Chargers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
