Poth won the last time they faced Karnes City and things went their way on Friday too. The Pirates blew past the Badgers 16-1. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by ten runs or more this season.
Karlee Kroll made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Poth let Reese Urbanczyk and Ava Kroll run wild. Urbanczyk went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple, while Kroll scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That triple was Urbanczyk's first of the season. Jetta Jorden was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Poth always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Karnes City only posted an OBP of .111.
Poth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.6 runs over those games. As for Karnes City, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-9.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Poth is set to challenge their familiar foe Goliad at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Pirates have won five straight at home, while the Tigers won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change. Meanwhile, Karnes City will square off against rival Luling at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
