Basketball Recap: Monroe County Gets the Win

Monroe County lost to Straughn back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Monroe County Tigers escaped with a win against the Straughn Tigers by the margin of a single free throw, 61-60. Monroe County didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Straughn's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Clark Jordan, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Clark Gay, who posted nine points.

Monroe County's win bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Straughn, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season.

Monroe County and W.S. Neal will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Straughn, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Straughn Tigers take on the Georgiana Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Georgiana has six straight victories, Straughn has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
