Softball Game Preview: Clifton Mustangs vs. Bergen Tech Knights

The Clifton Mustangs will square off against the Bergen Tech Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clifton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.2 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Clifton made easy work of Eastside and carried off a 22-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

Andrea Cedeno made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Cedeno was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Casey Mullen was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Josephine Zagorski, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, four RBI, and one double.

Clifton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. They are 5-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Bergen Tech couldn't beat Passaic County Tech on Tuesday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Knights came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 13-7. The Knights haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Bergen Tech saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sarah Mennella, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Bergen Tech's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Clifton, their win bumped their record up to 6-7.
