Football Recap: Key West Victorious

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Key West had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Cypress Lake Panthers by a score of 44-34. This was payback for the Conchs, who suffered a 24-21 loss the last time these two teams met.

Walson Morin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 341 yards and four TDs while picking up 12.6 yards per carry. He is becoming a predictor of Key West's success: when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). Jeff Dejean also helped out as he racked up 111 rushing yards.

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Lake lost, don't look at Adrian Burdette. Despite the final result, he picked up 110 receiving yards and one touchdown. Burdette was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 53 yards.

Key West's record now sits at 7-4. As for Cypress Lake, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.

Coming up, Key West is taking a road trip to challenge Northwestern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something the Conchs surely won't give up without a fight. Cypress Lake does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
