Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Alanah Casey and Camila Mendez Lead Somerset to Victory

There's no place like home for Somerset, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Pleasanton Eagles on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

Somerset had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-15, 25-21.

Leading Somerset to victory were Camila Mendez and Alanah Casey. Mendez had 26 digs and five assists, while Casey had 12 digs and two aces. Those 26 digs gave Mendez a new career-high. Jasira Jones also deserves some recognition as she had her first block of the season.

They weren't the only good servers: Somerset was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least nine aces in four consecutive matches.

Somerset's victory bumped their record up to 13-19. As for Pleasanton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 14 of their last 18 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Somerset is set to challenge their familiar foe Devine at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Pleasanton will square off against rival Pearsall at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
