Recap: Southampton Academy Raiders vs. Amelia Academy Patriots
The Southampton Academy Raiders waltzed into their matchup on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They really took it to Amelia Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 50-20 victory on the road. Southampton Academy pushed the score to 41-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Amelia Academy had little chance of recovering from.
Southampton Academy found their leader in underclassman G Applewhite, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. Applewhite hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 20 straight games. Another player making a difference was J Holland, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Amelia Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Levi Borum and Kyle Anderson. Borum scored six points along with 12 rebounds, while Anderson scored ten points along with three steals and two blocks. That was a full 50% of Amelia Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Amelia Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-4) when they just don't pass the ball.
Southampton Academy's victory bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Amelia Academy, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southampton Academy will face off against Kenston Forest at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Kenston Forest has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Amelia Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amelia Academy is coming into the game with nine straight losses on the road, meaning Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
