Baseball Recap: Bishop Verot Comes Up Short

If Bishop Verot was riding high fresh off their 12-4 takedown of Brother Rice on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Vikings took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Stoneman Douglas Eagles on Wednesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 4-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

Boston Selig got Bishop Verot off to a strong start despite the final result, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Selig has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Bishop Verot saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Raber, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Bishop Verot's defeat dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Stoneman Douglas, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Verot will venture away from home to face off against Wesley Chapel at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Stoneman Douglas, they will head out to square off against Cardinal Gibbons at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
