Softball Recap: Cumberland Colts vs. Oakcrest Falcons
On Thursday, the Cumberland Colts were able to grind out a solid victory over the Oakcrest Falcons, taking the game 6-1.
For Oakcrest's part, Chrystral Williams put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive pitching appearances. Williams was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Williams wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mia Priestley, who went 1-for-1 with a stolen base.
Cumberland's win bumped their record up to 4-13. As for Oakcrest, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-5.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cumberland will take on Kingsway at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Kingsway is coming into the matchup with nine straight victories at home, so Cumberland will have to stop a squad with plenty of momentum. As for Oakcrest, they will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Holy Spirit at 4:00 p.m.
