Softball Recap: Thomas Jefferson Takes a Loss

If Thomas Jefferson was feeling good fresh off their 26-8 takedown of Jefferson RISE Charter last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Thomas Jefferson took a 13-10 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy Swamp Owls on Saturday. Thomas Jefferson was not able to make up for their loss to Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy from their previous meeting back in April of 2023.

Micah Williams and Kameron Bird stepped up to the plate in a big way. Williams scored a run while going 3-for-4, while Bird scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Bird a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Caitlin Baldwin, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Thomas Jefferson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post 11 or more hits.

Thomas Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, the victory snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-5 record.

Looking ahead, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy is taking a road trip to take on Loranger at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Loranger's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Thomas Jefferson will be paying especially close attention to Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy's game: after Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy faces off against Loranger, they'll take on Thomas Jefferson again at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
