Basketball Recap: Yuma Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

While Yuma didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on the Coronado Dons with a sharp 65-43 win on Friday. The Criminals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 22 points or more this season.

Bonnie Amador was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten steals. Amador is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Legend Redmond was another key player, going 8 for 19 on her way to 16 points and eight steals.

Yuma smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Coronado saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Aundrea Rodriguez went 9 of 19 on her way to 23 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Yuma, bringing their record for this year to 4-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 25.3 points. As for Coronado, they now have a losing record at 3-4.

Yuma wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-16 loss against Cibola on the 16th. As for Coronado, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-40 win against Goldwater on the 16th.
