Baseball Recap: Palmetto Takes a Loss

Palmetto was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions. That's two games in a row now that the Panthers have lost by just one run.

Maxim Sotolongo was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

On the hitting side, Palmetto saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Dixon, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Sebastian Hernandez was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Palmetto's defeat dropped their record down to 3-12. As for Immaculata-La Salle, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.

Palmetto will take on Highland in a tournament on Monday. As for Immaculata-La Salle, they will venture away from home to take on Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
