Softball Recap: Brighton Bulldogs vs. Howell Highlanders
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Brighton had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They never let the Howell Highlanders onto the board and left with a 3-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but Brighton sure is getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Not much got past Belle Sixbery, who gave up just one hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Howell off the board. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Brighton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Johnson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
On Howell's side, Allison Ulanowski was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Ulanowski has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive pitching appearances.
Brighton is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 16-12 record this season. As for Howell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-18-1.
