Basketball Recap: Frederick Sampson Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fort Bend Dulles

Fort Bend Elkins won the last time they faced Fort Bend Dulles and things went their way on Saturday too. The Fort Bend Elkins Knights rang in the new year with a 54-47 victory over the Fort Bend Dulles Vikings. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 308th, while the Vikings are ranked 857th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fort Bend Elkins to victory, but perhaps none more so than Frederick Sampson, who posted 12 points and four steals. Sampson is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Caleb Rudd, who had 11 points.

Fort Bend Elkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Fort Bend Dulles only pulled down three offensive rebounds.

Fort Bend Dulles' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaylen Koovakada, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds, and Jayden Redhead, who put up 15 points. That was a full 38.3% of Fort Bend Dulles' points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points.

Fort Bend Elkins' win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-12. As for Fort Bend Dulles, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-17.

Fort Bend Elkins will welcome Fort Bend Clements at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Bend Clements will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Fort Bend Elkins surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fort Bend Dulles, they will venture away from home to face off against Fort Bend Travis at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Bend Travis has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
